Netflix to develop a reality show based on Overcooked franchise

The resurgence in video game adaptations over the past few years has resulted in a variety of distributors greenlighting projects across the entire scope of the video games space, from films and shows based on the biggest AAA franchises as well as notable indies. In an interesting announcement, Netflix and A24 have partnered up to create a competitive reality show based on the indie hit Overcooked.

As reported by Deadline, the known indie film production company A24 has partnered up with Netflix to develop a reality show competition based on the co-op focused indie game series Overcooked.

Little else is known about the show currently, with the adaptation said to be “in early stages of development” – although it has been confirmed that Overcooked studio Ghost Town Games is directly involved with Phil Duncan serving as one of the executive producers.

Overcooked Netflix

For the uninitiated, Overcooked is a chaotic co-op cooking game in which you and your friends must navigate a kitchen and complete orders in time; all the while the restaurant itself is being split into two, tilting on its side – among other wacky happenings.

While an argument can be made that far too many video game adaptations have been greenlit in recent years, the concept of a reality show in which contestants must navigate an ever-changing kitchen could be great entertainment.
