Back in May, Microsoft/Xbox officially unveiled the previously-rumoured Gears of War: Reloaded – a remake of the 2006 classic which was being brought over to current-gen systems as well as PlayStation consoles for the first time. Just a couple days following its 26th of August release and Gears of War: Reloaded has officially surpassed 1 million players.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Gears of War page wrote the following: “Ending the console war, one grub at a time. Thank you for 1 million players.”
Of course, 1 million players does not equate to 1 million copies sold, especially as Gears of War: Reloaded was a day-one Xbox Game Pass addition.
Still, it’s safe to assume that a solid number of said players hail from PlayStation – especially given that Gears of War sits alongside Halo and Forza as the three pillars of Xbox’s first-party identity; making it an enticing proposition.
As of writing, Gears of War Reloaded is situated as the 5th best-selling game on PS5 currently, only behind MGS Delta, Fortnite, NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC 26. That said, the best-selling list fluctuates on a regular basis based on various factors, and so its current position should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Given how Microsoft stopped sharing full sales data years ago, we’re unlikely to learn of the exact platform breakdown between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Still, based on rudimentary data, it seems as though Gears of War: Reloaded is off to a solid start.
