Fortnite now offers a subscription service

While Fortnite’s implementation of a Battle Pass offered an alternative recurring payment system to that of an ongoing subscription, the free-to-play Battle Royale game is now offering just that – a subscription service. Called Fortnite Crew, subscribers will receive the traditional Battle Pass as well as a number of monthly extras for a monthly cost.

Making the announcement on its blog, Epic Games revealed that “Beginning December 2 with the arrival of Chapter 2 – Season 5, we’re launching Fortnite Crew, the ultimate subscription offer for getting can’t-miss Fortnite content!”

The subscription service will cost $11.99 a month, and will include:

  • Battle Pass Included for the full Season – As a member of the Fortnite Crew, you’ll always have access to the current season’s Battle Pass!
  • 1,000 V-Bucks Each Month – Fortnite Crew members will receive 1,000 V-Bucks every month. Spend it on your favorite Item Shop content!
  • Get A New Monthly Crew Pack! – Get an exclusive Fortnite Crew Pack, an always-new Outfit Bundle that only Fortnite Crew members get.

The monthly crew pack for December was also revealed, showing off the new and exclusive ‘Galaxia’ skin, which appears to be an alternative take on the popular Brite Bomber skin.

Those who casually play Fortnite will unlikely find enough incentive to subscribe to the service, but for those who continue to play the popular Battle Royale shooter regularly, the newly announced Fornite Crew may in fact offer enough value to warrant a subscription. It’ll be interesting to see whether this new service will overshadow the traditional Battle Pass in the long run.
