Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is currently 2025’s Game of the Year in many people’s eyes, with the JRPG-inspired title receiving universal acclaim from both critics and fans alike. Alongside the surprise announcement of a major free update, the team at Sandfall Interactive have now confirmed that Clair Obscur has sold over 5 million copies.
Taking to their blog to make the announcement, studio Sandfall Interactive wrote: “In April we released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. 5 months later, we’ve sold 5 million copies worldwide!”
While a feat in and of itself, this 5 million figure is even more impressive when you consider the fact that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a day-one Xbox Game Pass addition.
Alongside this latest sales milestone, the team at Sandfall Interactive unveiled their upcoming free update, which includes but is not limited to:
- A new playable environment “taking the characters of Expedition 33 to a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover”
- New “challenging” boss fights
- Additional costumes for each expedition member
- Support for 7 more languages (text and UI).
While there have been many Game of the Year contenders released in 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 still sits at the top of the pack in many people’s eyes.
With even more content coming soon, it will be interesting to see just how many copies will have sold by the time we get to December’s Game Awards.
