Bioware releases free standalone Dragon Age character creator

2024 marks the first time in a long time that Bioware has been able to celebrate Dragon Age day in the same year that a new entry has actually been released. As such, alongside the typical celebrations, Bioware has released its character creator for Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a free standalone title for all to mess around with.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Bioware said: “Along with Patch 4 later today, we’re pleased to release a stand alone, free version of the Character Creator on all platforms! For the folks who have yet to jump into Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can now create a Rook before buying the full game and transfer your character over, as long as you’re on the same platform”

Unsurprisingly, there is no limit on how long you can spend tweaking your character – though Bioware made sure to clarify this fact anyway.

Ever since Black Desert Online released their in-depth character creator as a standalone app all the way back in 2016, we have seen an increasing number of games follow suit – including but not limited to the likes of Saints Row and more recently Dragon’s Dogma 2.

That said, this may be one of the first times in which the character creator has been released AFTER the game has already launched. Regardless, it’s certainly a nice-to-have.
