Silent Hill f is officially the highest rated entry in the horror franchise since the original trilogy over two decades ago.

Techland’s 3rd game in the Dying Light series appears to be its best yet, with critic reviews for The Beast putting it as the highest rated entry so far.

As more critic reviews pile in, Hollow Knight: Silksong is now sitting at the top of 2025’s highest-rated games list alongside Clair Obscur and Split Fiction.

Ahead of its arrival this week, reviews for SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance have officially gone live – marking it as one of the highest-rated games of the year.

The day-one PlayStation Plus launch title ‘Sword of the Sea’ is officially Giant Squid’s highest rated game yet with a Metacritic score of 88.

Over the past 15 years or so, FromSoftware has gone from strength to strength. Starting with 2009’s Demons Souls, the studio has had a generational run with each new game receiving an increasing number of sales and accolades – culminating with Elden Ring as one of the highest rated games of all time. Though seemingly still a good game, the studio’s upcoming Elden Ring: Nightreign has become the lowest-rated FromSoft title since 2018’s VR exclusive Deracine.

Earlier this year we got our first taste of what might be an early game of the year contender in the form of Hazelight Studios’ Split fiction. Not to be outdone, new studio Sandfall Interactive’s hybrid turn-based RPG ‘Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’ has now snatched the crown for the highest rated game of 2025 so far.

Ubisoft is betting a lot on Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Thanks to a number of less-than-stellar releases, controversies and the like, the publisher has been on the verge of being sold off for quite some time. Unfortunately, it seems as though – despite the added delays for increased polish – AC: Shadows is more or less just another Ubisoft title.

While Capcom was crowned as the best publisher in 2023 thanks to its high-ranking game releases, another Japanese publisher usurped them in 2024. Metacritic has now revealed that Sega was the highest-rated publisher of 2024. 

Split Fiction is the next big game from Josef Fares and Hazelight Studios. Known for their work on co-op focused titles such as A Way Out and It Takes Two, the upcoming Split Fiction appears to be an early game of the year contender if critics are anything to go by – receiving universal acclaim and becoming the highest rated game of 2025 so far.

For decades, Atlus has been most known as the studio behind the much-loved RPG series Shin Megami Tensei as well as its arguably more popular spin-off ‘Persona’. As such, expanding out with a new IP appeared to have been a risky move for the studio – a move which has paid off, as Metaphor: ReFantazio is currently the highest rated game of 2024.

Just over a year ago, Bethesda Games Studios released Starfield – a ‘big space game’ which had been ruminating in Todd Howard’s mind for over 25 years. Despite its grand ambitions, the title saw a mixed reaction from fans, though positive critic reviews.
