After a ton of hype and anticipation, Battlefield 6 finally arrived to huge success, selling over 7 million copies in its first week while amassing a concurrent player count of almost 750,000 on Steam alone. If you have signed up to DICE's new testing platform, Battlefield Labs, then it is time to check your inbox as EA and DICE have sent out another wave of invites ahead of the next playtest. 

Back in the day, EA would make a little extra money from Battlefield by offering Battlefield Premium, a membership that provided instant weapon unlocks, XP boosts and more. Now according to dataminers, this system will be making a return in the future. 

A few weeks ago, EA officially announced Battlefield Labs, a new testing program intended to show more transparency on plans for future Battlefield titles and allow developers to gather feedback much earlier in the development process. Thousands of fans have already signed up to participate and now, the first playtest is ready to begin. 

Following the disappointment of Battlefield 2042, EA and DICE seem to be going all-in for the series’ next entry, featuring more internal tests than ever before, and recently going live with its Battlefield Labs program. While details on the game overall continue to remain light, we do know that the upcoming title will launch before April 2026.

EA has launched a number of community playtest programs over the years, seeking feedback for projects still in development. Typically, we see these for smaller games, like Skate, while games like Battlefield are kept under wraps until the public beta tests that take place just weeks before release. This blew up in EA's face with Battlefield 2042, as the game launched with a huge number of bugs and issues. To avoid this next time around, DICE is launching Battlefield Labs. 

While Battlefield 2042 was hyped up prior to release, a series of launch-day issues hampered the game's long-term performance. As a result, EA has made some changes and is now preparing for the next Battlefield game. We'll get our first look at what's in the works later today with the reveal of the Community Test Program. 

With DICE recovering from the failure of Battlefield 2042, it seems the team are engaging in a ton more playtests for the upcoming sequel.
