While initial impressions surrounding Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed left plenty to be desired (in part due to a disparity between fan expectations based on pre-release trailers and the final product), the game itself did offer plenty of fun in its own right, with satisfying wand combat, solid exploration and more. While Avowed has had a mostly positive reception, one of the criticisms of the game was the simple fact that character builds are quite restricted by the game's skill point cap. Obsidian is making up for that with its latest patch. 

Avowed marks the biggest first-party Xbox game for 2025 so far, with the Obsidian Entertainment-developed RPG arriving on Microsoft’s console (and PC) just under a month ago. Being Microsoft, the company rarely shares sales figures for its games. That being said, according to the game’s director, the higher-ups at Xbox are “happy” with Avowed’s player numbers.

Obsidian has an extremely busy year ahead with Avowed due to launch this month, followed by The Outer Worlds 2 later this year. In the middle of this, Obsidian is also preparing for its next major game, and it has brought back the lead writer behind Fallout New Vegas to work on it. 

While Microsoft's Avowed was previously stated to target 30fps on the Series X, the team at Obsidian have clarified that the framerate is not yet set in stone.

You can play Avowed early, but you'll need to be willing to shell out £90, with not much else to gain from the Premium Edition beyond a few skins.

The PC system requirements for Avowed have been revealed via the game's Steam page. An RTX 3080 is recommended, causing some optimisation concerns.

Despite not being an Activision Blizzard title, Avowed will launch on the publisher’s platform ‘Battle.net’ alongside Steam and the Windows/Xbox store.

Xbox has offered gamers some more time to clear their backlogs heading into the final months of 2024 by delaying the release of Avowed until early 2025. The highly anticipated action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment is now slated for release on February 18th, 2025.

Microsoft has been present at quite a few events over the course of 2024 so far, and it seems they have no plans of slowing down, with the console maker confirming that Xbox will be present at the upcoming Gamescom convention. Set to go live on the 21st of August, Xbox’s plans for the event have now been detailed.

Last year during the Xbox Games Showcase, we got our first look at Avowed gameplay. Unfortunately, the game was still in rough shape at the time, so fans were unimpressed by the game's combat. Obsidian took that feedback seriously last year and has now reworked the combat ahead of the game's planned 2024 release.
