It looks like LG is finally getting in on the glossy OLED action. A new monitor, the LG UltraGear 27GX704A-B, has just been listed on Amazon in the US, and it appears to be the company's first display to use the new and improved glossy version of its popular 27-inch 240Hz WOLED panel.
For a while, if you wanted this 27-inch QHD 240Hz WOLED panel with a glossy finish for that extra pop and clarity, your only option was from Asus. The first-generation glossy coating had some minor issues, but panel-maker LG has since improved it to achieve a 0% haze finish (previously 3%) with enhanced reflection handling. This should be the same updated coating that Asus is branding as “TrueBlack Glossy” on its new ROG Strix OLED monitors, and it's now finally available on one of LG's own monitors.
Underneath the new coating, the panel's specifications (via Display Specifications) will be familiar to anyone following the OLED market. It features a 26.5-inch screen with a 2560×1440 resolution, a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 0.03ms GtG response time. It also boasts a peak brightness of 1300 nits, is DisplayHDR 400 True Black certified, and covers 98.5% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The panel is certified for both FreeSync Premium Pro and is G-Sync Compatible. Based on these specs, it's likely that this WOLED panel is not an RGB Tandem WOLED panel, as they usually have a 280Hz refresh rate and 1500 nits of brightness.
The monitor features a comprehensive range of connectivity, including two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 port, and a fully adjustable stand. The monitor is listed on Amazon US for $799.99.
