AOC’s new 320Hz monitor uses ‘Circular Polarization’ panel to reduce eye strain

AOC has unveiled a new high-refresh-rate gaming monitor, the Q27G4SL/WS, which features a unique panel technology designed to be more comfortable on the eyes during extended gaming sessions. The new display is the first 320 Hz monitor to receive a TÜV Rheinland Circular Polarization certification, ensuring reduced eye strain when using the device.

This new circular polarisation technology aims to reduce eye strain and glare. By mimicking the way sunlight naturally diffuses in a spiral pattern, the light emitted from the monitor is less direct, which AOC claims reduces the harsh stimulation on the user's lens and retina, resulting in a healthier, more natural viewing experience.

The Q27G4SL/WS is a 27-inch Fast IPS monitor with a crisp QHD (2560×1440) resolution and a blistering 320 Hz refresh rate. However, to use a 320 Hz refresh rate, the 10-bit colour panel will be limited to 16.7 million colours (same as an 8-bit panel). To use the 10-bit panel to its full potential, users must reduce the refresh rate to 260 Hz. Regardless of your option, it's recommended to use one of the two HDMI 2.1 ports, as they support a higher bandwidth than the alternative DisplayPort 1.4 (will require DSC to drive such refresh rates).

The monitor also boasts a 0.3 ms MPRT for high motion clarity and is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified, with a typical brightness of 350 nits. Calibrated out of the box (delta E < 2), this monitor can cover up to 125% of the sRGB colour gamut and 96% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Moreover, the monitor sits on a fully ergonomic stand with height, tilt, and swivel adjustments, and includes standard gaming features such as a built-in crosshair overlay. VESA 100×100 support is also present.

KitGuru says: Even with its limitations, the new Q27G4SL/WS appears to be an overall solid monitor for gaming, especially if you prioritise your eyes' health.
