Eve: Valkyrie will soon be playable without a virtual reality headset

Eve: Online spin-off, Eve: Valkyrie, first appeared in 2013, being announced as a multiplayer-only spaceship shooter for the Oculus Rift. The game is now playable across all three major virtual reality platforms, including the Rift, Vive and PlayStation VR but later this year, you will be able to play the game outside of VR too. To help mark the occasion, CCP will also be releasing a major expansion for the game called ‘Warzone’, which will be free for everyone.

Warzone comes out in September and will remove the need to own a virtual reality headset to play Eve: Valkyrie. However, the expansion does more than just that. A new modular progression system will enable players to customise their ships more, two new maps will be included as well as a new game mode.

Given that the VR market is still relatively small, this move to open up the game to more players should result in a more active player base. Even with this move though, CCP will continue to support Eve: Valkyrie across the PC, PS4 and virtual reality platforms.

Eve: Valkyrie Warzone launches on the 26th of September. Once it lands, the game will have a permanent price cut from $40 down to $30.

KitGuru Says: Eve: Valkyrie was a fun VR shooter but it does take some getting used to when using a controller. If the keyboard and mouse controls are intuitive enough, then this could end up being a really great PC shooter.
