Nvidia reportedly looking to acquire ARM

The ARM chip architecture is widely used amongst smartphones and tablets. Soon, even Apple will be transitioning away from Intel to ARM-based chips for its own Mac systems. With all of these big moves in mind, it should come as no surprise that there are tech giants interested in acquiring the company. According to reports this week, NVIDIA is among them.

According to a report from Bloomberg this week, Nvidia has approached ARM in an effort to discuss a potential acquisition. At the moment, Arm Ltd. is owned by Japan based company, SoftBank, which acquired Arm back in 2016 for a total of $32 billion.

A deal for Arm could end up being the biggest acquisition in the chip industry. Recently, Nvidia shares have been on the rise, bringing the company's market capitalisation up to $254 billion.

We don't currently know how much Nvidia would be willing to spend to acquire ARM but if negotiations end up moving forward, it could well end up being the graphics giant's biggest acquisition to date. In recent months, Nvidia has also acquired cloud, data and networking specialist company, Mellanox, for $7 billion.
