While the PlayStation Store has evolved and improved over the generations, functionality-wise the digital storefront has remained relatively static for quite a while. That said, in a surprise update, users can now for the first time write and publish game reviews directly to the PlayStation Store.
As reported by the publication PushSquare, in going to the PlayStation Store on a browser, users can now directly review games which they have purchased.
While the ability to rate a game has been available for quite a while, this marks the first time that users can submit written reviews in particular.
Though currently limited to the browser version of the store, the new review system is somewhat comprehensive, giving you a 4000 character limit while allowing you to mark your review as including spoilers. In addition, you can give your review a dedicated title for greater clarity/emphasis.
It is worth noting that Sony states that all reviews are “evaluated by a team of moderators” and so it’s possible that some submissions don’t wind up making it to the page. Assuming this is done primarily to remove inappropriate reviews, the system should hopefully be a net positive.
That said, we will have to wait and see how Sony chooses to approach this over the coming months.
