Multiple major publishers reportedly delaying games due to GTA VI

Grand Theft Auto is easily one of the biggest names in gaming, with GTA V alone selling over 200 million copies in the decade since its release. With GTA VI slated to come out later this year, many publishers are reportedly getting ready to weather the storm – with plans to delay their games in order to not clash with Rockstar’s upcoming juggernaut.

In a newsletter written by known industry insider Christopher Dring (via TheGameBusiness), the leaker claimed that they’ve heard from 3 major publishers who have all put plans in motion to delay their upcoming titles should they clash with GTA VI.

According to “the boss of one of the world’s biggest game publishers,” Rockstar’s games “always suck a lot of money and, more importantly, time out of the market. We don’t want to be anywhere near that. We are working up multiple different plans for our titles.”

Another source added: “Even without GTA. It's immensely difficult to find free time for new games to shine. Time is the real scarcity for us, not money. It’s tough out there.”

While we have yet to get an official release date, Take-Two have on multiple occasions reaffirmed that GTA VI is still set to arrive some time this year. Should this wind up being the case, it will be interesting to see exactly how the rest of the industry responds.
