First released back in 2021 for PlayStation and PC, Guilty Gear Strive is the latest entry in the long-running and much loved 2.5D fighting series from Arc System Works. While the team are diligently working on the upcoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Guilty Gear has continued to grow – with the latest entry having now surpassed 3.5 million players.
As part of its EVO announcements, Arc System Works released a thank you trailer to fans of Guilty Gear Strive, confirming that they will continue to support the game while also announcing the latest player numbers.
Since its launch in 2021, GG Strive has managed to exceed 3.5 million players in total. Of course, 3.5 million players does not equate to 3.5 million copies sold, especially as the title did join Game Pass back in 2023.
That said, back in January the team did officially confirm that Strive had SOLD 3 million copies ahead of the game’s arrival on Switch. As such, the total number of copies sold likely does line-up somewhat with player numbers – though the distinction should still be highlighted.
There is no denying that Guilty Gear Strive is a success, and with Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners still set to arrive during Season 4 (as well as a massive upcoming 2.0 update), the game still has a ton of life left.
Even so, it will be highly interesting to see how Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls performs when it arrives some time next year.
