Forza Horizon 5 has outsold Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PS5

Forza Horizon 5 is one of the biggest racing games around, with the 2021 title seeing well over 45 million players as of earlier this year. Despite its age, upon its release for PlayStation in late April the game has sold like hotcakes – with it having now surpassed the total PS5 sales of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Back in early May – mere days following the release of the game on PlayStation 5 – Forza Horizon 5 was confirmed to have sold 1 million copies on the platform. Since then, momentum has only continued, with Alinea Analytics confirming that the racing title has now sold 2.2 million copies on PS5.

While in and of itself an impressive feat, what is perhaps more surprising is that the game has now surpassed Assassin’s Creed Shadows when it comes to total units sales on the platform.

Despite launching a month earlier, Assassin’s Creed Shadows sales have plateaued somewhat – resting at 1.8 million copies on PS5. By the 15th of May, Forza Horizon 5 had already surpassed Shadows.

Of course, it is worth noting that these are two very different games with very different audiences (at slightly different price points), and so comparisons aren’t necessarily 1:1. Still, the rapid and continuing success of Forza on PlayStation is interesting to see.
