Dying Light: The Beast is the highest rated entry in the series so far

Following the somewhat mixed reception towards Dying Light 2, Techland returned to its roots with Dying Light: The Beast, bringing back a familiar face in Kyle Crane while offering a “unique blend of open world and survival horror”. With the game now available for all to enjoy, critic reviews for Dying Light: The Beast have gone live – marking it as the highest rated entry in the series yet.

With a Metacritic score of 78 and an OpenCritic rating of 82, Dying Light: The Beast is officially the highest rated entry in the series so far – with the first entry sitting at a somewhat middling 74 on Metacritic, with its sequel rising slightly to 76.

Though merely a small bump up in terms of an aggregate score, the sequel / spin-off appears to have succeeded in the eyes of many, with critics giving particular praise to the game’s “targeted improvements” while sticking with the core of what makes Dying Light what it is.

Its increased focus on survival horror elements seem to have paid off also, making for a more tense and immersive overall experience.

Ultimately, it seems as though Dying Light: The Beast is Dying Light at its best – which for many is all they were hoping for. It will be interesting to see what fans think of the game as they get further through The Beast.
