Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on Switch 2 this December

When it comes to supporting Nintendo hardware, Ubisoft is by far one of the most proactive 3rd party publishers, having released a bunch of games on the Switch, WiiU and even the Wii back in the day. The publisher has already brought some of its games over to the Switch 2 including the current-gen exclusive Star Wars Outlaws. Now, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is next in line to receive the Switch 2 treatment.

Releasing a brief official announcement trailer, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on Switch 2 in just a couple months’ time – landing on Nintendo’s ‘latest and greatest’ platform on the 2nd of December.

As with the aforementioned Star Wars Outlaws, AC Shadows is current-gen console exclusive and so it will be interesting to see how the game performs on Nintendo’s portable system. Though this could merely be a matter of logistics, the trailer for the Switch 2 version was uploaded in just 1080p and 30fps – suggesting that the game could be somewhat visually compromised.

In other unfortunate though unsurprising news, the physical version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be presented on a Game-Key Card, meaning none of the game’s data will be on the cartridge itself.

That said, Switch 2 owners aren’t completely hard done by, with the upcoming port including cross-progression with all other systems alongside touchscreen support for all menus.

Last but not least, AC Shadows will retail on Switch 2 for slightly lower than during its initial launch, with Nintendo owners being able to pick the game up for ‘just’ $60.

3rd-party support on the Switch 2 so far has been hit-or-miss, with some titles showing off the current-gen handheld in a positive light – and others needing to be delayed in order to ensure stable performance. It will be interesting to see whether Switch 2 owners will pick up AC: Shadows when it arrives in a little over a month’s time.
