Kojima horror project ‘OD’ gets new trailer

It has been a good couple of years since Xbox announced that it had signed an exclusive deal with Kojima Productions for a new game. That game ended up being revealed under the title ‘OD' in a very brief teaser at The Game Awards 2023. Now, as part of the studio's recent ‘Beyond the Strand' event, we have a new trailer for the game, as well as a tweaked title.

The game, also sometimes referred to as ‘Overdose', is clearly a horror project, something that should excite fans of Kojima's work. Prior to Death Stranding, Kojima had been working on a new horror game at Konami, but when Kojima split from the company, that game, which would have been a new Silent Hill title, was cancelled.

The game was originally announced under the title OD, but it now appears to have changed to OD: Knock.

The new trailer for OD features hyper-realistic visuals of a new character played by Sophia Lillis, known for roles in IT, Dungeons & Dragons and Honor Among Thieves. The scene shows her walking into a dimly lit room, lighting candles on an altar and then waiting while an ominous knocking sound echoes through the room.

Kojima is leaning into fears of the unknown, particularly, the type of dread that some people can feel when there is an unexpected knock at the door. While advertised as a game, Kojima says that this game will be “a new form of media”, so there could be some very unique mechanics at play here. The only thing we know officially is that the studio will leverage Microsoft's cloud computing tools in some way.

There is no release date yet, or even an estimated release window. It also appears that there will be multiple projects in this universe, with Kojima himself leading the charge on OD: Knock, while another OD project is being developed with film director Jordan Peele.

KitGuru Says: This is starting to sound a little like Kojima's version of The Dark Pictures anthology from Supermassive Games.
