Bungie is looking to expand the reach of Destiny with its new mobile game, Destiny: Rising, which has gotten some surprisingly good reviews from long-time Destiny players during previous testing phases. As of today, iOS users can download the app, but you will have to wait until tomorrow for the servers to go live.
Destiny: Rising is now available to download on iOS for those who pre-registered in the App Store. I received my notification this afternoon and proceeded to download the game. However, servers don't actually go live until tomorrow, the 28th of August.
Destiny: Rising is a mobile-exclusive take on the Destiny formula. Developed in collaboration with NetEase (Marvel Rivals, Diablo Immortal), the game was officially announced back in October of last year. The game has gone through a couple of rounds of alpha and beta testing to get it ready for this launch.
For the uninitiated, Destiny: Rising is a shooter, just like the main console and PC game, complete with familiar mechanics like Patrol Zones, dedicated PvP modes, Strikes, Campaign missions and more. Unlike traditional Destiny, however, is the third-person gameplay. Typically in Destiny you can only access third-person view by equipping a melee heavy weapon, like a sword, but Destiny: Rising is entirely designed around third-person gameplay.
Asd this is a free-to-play game, there are monetisation systems in place. This includes a Gacha system for unlocking new ‘hero' characters, as well as cosmetic skins and a battle pass.
Destiny: Rising will be available on Android and iOS devices starting this week. The game can be played with touch controls, or with a Bluetooth controller, so you can easily hook up an Xbox or PlayStation gamepad for more comfortable controls.
