Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t make the jump to $80

Over the summer, Microsoft announced plans to raise the prices of all its new games to $80 at launch. This decision quickly garnered criticism, in large part due to The Outer Worlds 2 being used as the poster child for this change. Obsidian is famously known for being a lean studio that sticks to sensible budgets. When The Outer Worlds 2 was announced, Obsidian revealed that the scope of the sequel would be similar to the original. As a result, fans were unwilling to go along with Microsoft's ‘increased cost of development' argument.

There is one game in Microsoft's arsenal where they could have got away with this change. Call of Duty is notorious for being one of the most expensive games to make each year, so if any game in Microsoft's holiday season line-up was to make the jump to $80, COD would be the one that makes the most sense.

With all of that said, billbil-kun has recently uncovered store listing details for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Through their findings, we have learned that Black Ops 7 will not be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. On top of that, their findings show that Black Ops 7 will launch at $70, rather than $80.

This makes sense as Microsoft announced just one month after its summer showcase that it would no longer be going ahead with plans to raise prices to $80 this holiday season. That is likely to change next year, assuming other publishers also continue to push the $80 price trend.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft had already announced plans to pump the brakes on $80 games, but it was still speculated that COD would make the jump to $80 this year. That speculation can now be put to rest.
