Xbox rolls out CoPilot AI for gaming

Microsoft has begun the public rollout of its AI-powered Gaming Copilot for Windows PC. The feature, which acts as a personal gaming assistant, is being integrated directly into the Xbox Game Bar and will be rolling out to users over the next few weeks, with a mobile version to follow in October.

After a period of testing with Xbox Insiders, the Gaming Copilot is now ready for a wider audience. The AI assistant can be queried via text or voice to receive help with a wide range of in-game tasks, such as seeking advice on character builds, looking up quest objectives, or obtaining tips on tactics. It can also give you game recommendations from your library or help you hunt down your next achievement.

The most impressive feature, however, is the Copilot's ability to understand what's happening on your screen in real time. According to Microsoft, you can use Voice Mode to ask questions about what you are currently seeing. For example, you can ask for tips on how to defeat a new enemy you've just encountered or ask for a lore recap on an NPC you are talking to, all without leaving the game.

On PC, the assistant is accessed by pressing Win+G to open the Game Bar, where you'll find a new Copilot widget. This includes voice options like a Push to Talk hotkey and a pinnable ‘Mini Mode' for ongoing conversations. The feature will also be coming to the Xbox mobile app next month, allowing you to use your phone as a second-screen AI companion. Microsoft has also confirmed that the AI assistant will be coming to Xbox consoles in the near future. As for the PC version, it's rolling out now to gamers aged 18 and over in all supported Xbox regions except mainland China.
