Steam reaches new concurrent player record

Steam has once again shattered its concurrent player record, surpassing the 39 million mark for users online simultaneously.

Yesterday, Steam CCU peaked at 39,205,447 players, breaking the previous record of 38 million set just three months ago in September. To understand why we hit a new CCU record this weekend, we'll have to look at Steam's most-played games in the last 24 hours.

Counter-Strike 2 is still at the top as the most popular game, followed closely by Dota 2. Looking at the third place, things start to get interesting, with the newly-released Path of Exile 2 proving that Grinding Gear Games' highly anticipated sequel is already a hit. Then, Marvel Rivals is in fourth place, showing that the recently launched free-to-play hero shooter is already pulling many players. Other popular titles in the top 20 include PUBG: Battlegrounds, Rust, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty, and the Early Access release of Delta Force, which, like Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals, has also released this last week.

The release of the three strong titles before last weekend certainly helped drive the number of players up. However, seeing how Steam is only getting more popular, even without these games, it was a matter of time before we saw the CCU breaking the 39 million mark.
