Half Life celebrates 20th anniversary with new update and 2-hour documentary

Valve is marking the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2 with a wealth of new content, including a two-hour documentary, an updated developer commentary, and a new update. Unfortunately, in the middle of all of this, there's no mention of the long-awaited “Half-Life 3”.

While it may not be the elusive Half-Life 3 announcement that fans have eagerly anticipated for over two decades, Valve's tribute is certain to satiate their enthusiasm and keep the community engaged during the wait. The star of this celebration is the new documentary produced by the Secret Tape team, who previously gave us an in-depth look at the making of the original Half-Life. This two-hour film offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes perspective on the challenges Valve faced, such as financial struggles, security breaches, and the launch of the Steam platform.

In addition to the documentary, players of Half-Life 2 can dive into a new update that not only addresses bugs but introduces fresh content. Notably, the original Episode One and Episode Two expansions have been integrated into the base game, entirely free of charge. To enrich the experience, Valve has reunited the original Half-Life 2 development team to provide insightful commentary throughout the game.

Celebrating the anniversary also means new features, such as Steam Workshop support and the ability to record gameplay directly through Steam. The update also brings other enhancements, including improved lighting, more defined horizons, additional graphical settings for visual effects like blood and fire, and adjustments to the aim-assist system.

For those keen to relive the classic experience, Valve has made Half-Life 2 available for free on Steam until November 18th. This promotion allows players to access the entire sequel, including both expansions.

KitGuru says: Though the confirmation of Half-Life 3 remains a mystery, today's offerings will certainly keep fans occupied while they await any news of a possible sequel.
