Apple to fix iOS5 battery problems with upcoming patch

Apple will be releasing a software patch within a few weeks to address the bug in iOS5 which has been causing battery life problems for owners of their smartphones. The problem seems to have been widespread, with many customers complaining of very short battery life with their new iPhone 4S handsets.

Apple told AllThingsD “A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices, We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

We reported on the problem a short while ago, and the concerns are still being raised across many forums globally, including the official chat forums. Apple have not yet publicly addressed the concerns with a fix, although many journalists have posted ‘quick fix' solutions to ensure that battery life is maximised. Turning off the time zone automatic adjustment feature helps, as does disabling notifications.

The problems have not affected sales of the iPhone 4S which has been breaking all records to date.

Kitguru says: If Apple can ride past a crippling antenna issue in the past, then this software bug will surely not cause them any problems long term.
