After a great deal of hype, excitement and anticipation, the follow-up to 2020’s excellent Ghost of Tsushima has officially arrived, with Ghost of Yotei serving as a strong successor to the studio’s PS4 swan song. While work on Yotei is far from over, with the team promising the multiplayer Legends mode for some time next year, fans have already begun to wonder what’s next in store for Sucker Punch. We will have to remain patient, as the studio head has now reaffirmed that Sucker Punch operates as a one-project studio.
Following the successful launch of Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch co-founder and studio head Brain Flemming sat down to speak with the publication VGC regarding the game, its development, and what’s next in store for the studio.
According to Flemming: “Whatever we do next, whether it's continuing Ghost or going back to Sly, the decision is really more limited by, again, our cherishing of focus and time to iterate, which means that we really can only do one thing at a time.”
They continued, “If we were good at juggling four projects, yeah, we'd have a remaster, and let's go do one of those, and one of those, and do some fan request, that would be really popular… But we only get to do one thing. So it kind of has to be your best idea, right? And that's really clarifying. It's not like there aren't 15 good ideas. But you only get to do one.”
As referenced by Flemming, some fans are hoping to see Sucker Punch return to their Sly Cooper franchise from the PS2 era. Meanwhile, others wish to see the underrated InFamous series being brought back instead.
While the revival of either series would be a welcome surprise for long-time fans of the studio, it would make sense for Sucker Punch to do whatever makes them feel the most fulfilled. In the meantime, we still have Ghost of Yotei Legends to look forward to.
