Borderlands 4 may very well be the best entry in the much-loved looter-shooter franchise. Unfortunately, the game stumbled out of the gate somewhat with a plethora of optimisation issues, performance woes, bugs and a lack of options on console. Though there is still work to be done, Gearbox have now released their first big post-launch patch, introducing stability and performance improvements, refinements, and an FOV slider on console.
Available to download/update right now, the latest update to Borderlands 4 is easily its biggest, bringing major improvements to both PC and consoles. While the full patch notes can be found HERE, some of the most notable include:
- Enabled Field of View (FOV) slider on console
- Addressed various instances of hitching, low FPS, and crashes
- Updated character animations for performance improvements
- Improved loading of characters in menus to reduce visible delays when entering character select
- Vault Hunter changes and balance adjustments
- Rewards and progression fixes
- Gameplay bug fixes
- Gear balance tweaks
- Updated gear thumbnails in cases where they did not display properly, and ensured stand-in thumbnails load properly
- Updated various UI visuals for alignment, consistency, and clarity
- Updated NPC and enemy pathing
- Various visual updates and improvements
- Ambient critters have a more natural spawn behaviour.
Being the first major post-launch update, the patch notes include far more than just those listed above. While we will have to wait and see whether reported issues such as the memory leak have been wholly fixed, this update represents a major step in the right direction for Borderlands 4 – especially on console.
