Black Ops 7 set to get highly-experimental campaign mode

Ahead of Call of Duty Black Ops 7’s big blowout showcase during the upcoming Gamescom Opening Night Live, a ton of different gameplay and story beats have leaked early. Following reports that Black Ops 7 will be removing tac-sprint, openable doors and more, the upcoming Call of Duty is also set to overhaul how its campaign works.

As reported by known leaker Tom Henderson via Insider-Gaming, Black Ops 7’s campaign mode will perhaps be one of the most experimental in series history as it integrates “the campaign’s final mission into a 32-player multiplayer experience” on the long-awaited (and possibly scrapped/repurposed) Battle Royale map ‘Avalon’.

Beyond this, the campaign is said to merge with the rest of the game in other ways, as according to Henderson players will be able to earn XP and progression towards “weapons, characters, and even the Battle Pass” while playing through the campaign.

Call of Duty’s campaign modes have been highly inconsistent in recent years, with the likes of Black Ops 6 being received mostly positively – while MWIII’s tepid attempt at a campaign led to viral memes clowning on the experience.

Whether Black Ops 7’s campaign will be good or not, we will have to wait and see. At the very least, it seems as though Treyarch is trying something new.
