Black Ops 6 content will no longer carry forward to BO7 following fan outcry

With the release of a direct sequel to Call of Duty MWII (2022) in the form of Modern Warfare III just one year later, Activision introduced players to its new carry forward system. While mostly a success at the time, the sentiment surrounding Black Ops 6 and its content moving over to BO7 has been somewhat controversial – leading Treyarch to announce the cancellation of its own carry forward plans.

One of the biggest complaints with Black Ops 6 within the hardcore community has been the game’s adoption of wild and wacky operator skins. While nothing new for the franchise, Black Ops 6 in particular saw the release of many distracting skins, including cell-shaded versions of Beavis and Butt-Head; Stan Smith from American Dad and others.

As a result, there was a great deal of outcry from said fans when it was announced that operators, weapons and other various BO6 content would be carried forward into the upcoming Black Ops 7 (albeit not until Season 1).

Black Ops 6 Forward

In a rare move, Activision seems to have listened to the community, taking to their blog to write: “Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7. Double XP tokens and GobbleGums will still carry forward, because we recognize your time and progression are important.”

While many will be pleased by the change of heart, this does mean that Black Ops 7 will now feature significantly less content at launch than initially planned – even if much of said content was reused.

In addition, with Black Ops 7 set to feature plenty of PvE modes (such as the co-op campaign end-game, Zombies and more) the decision to keep Black Ops 6’s weapons confined to BO6 does feel like a one-step-forward, one-step-back sort of situation.
