The Last of Us TV series confirmed for January premiere

Earlier this week, HBO began listing a January 15th premiere date for its upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us. Now, this has been officially confirmed, as well as a few other details.

The Last of Us will get a nine-episode first season, but its availability outside of the US has yet to be confirmed. For now, The Last of Us has been announced for HBO Max, where new episodes will become available every Sunday at 9PM EST. An option has not yet been announced for international viewers.

The show takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the US and depend on each other for survival.

The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker will also make appearances.

KitGuru Says: The Last of Us is the kind of game that would lend itself well to a TV adaptation. Will you be watching this when it airs next year?
