Rockstar teams up with nopixel to bring official RP servers to GTA Online

Back in 2023, Rockstar made a major acquisition, buying out the team at Cfx.re, the creators behind the FiveM and RedM roleplay mods for GTA Online and Red Dead Online. With the GTA Online RP experts now working in-house, Rockstar is gearing up to ensure RP servers are supported when GTA 6 drops next year.

In a new announcement, Rockstar revealed that it is now also working with nopixel, a team dedicated to RP (Roleplay) mods for a couple of games, including Arma 3 and Grand Theft Auto. The collaboration will bring to life ‘nopixel V', the next evolution of GTA Online Roleplay.

In this case, nopixel V will be available as a standalone application via the Rockstar Games launcher and other PC platforms. As you may expect though, you will also need to own a copy of Grand Theft Auto Online to play it.

Roleplay servers have been incredibly popular amongst GTA Online players. In RP servers, players are offered greater customisation for their character, allowing you to play as a cop, a criminal, a businessman, a taxi driver, a mechanic, a doctor and other roles. The servers are kept in check by admins, who enforce a set of rules. The number one rule is obviously that your character remains ‘in character'. The end result is a very social experience where every player is akin to an actor in an improv show.

KitGuru Says: I was a huge fan of RP servers back when I was playing Garry's Mod as a teenager. Back then, you would even have to hold server-wide votes before someone could obtain a position of power, such as Mayor, or Chief of Police.
