id Software shadow drops Heretic + Hexen remaster at QuakeCon

QuakeCon took place over the weekend and as usual, Bethesda had some surprises in store. Over the past couple of years, Bethesda has used QuakeCon has a platform to announce remasters for several of its classic shooters and QuakeCon 2025 was no different.

Bethesda's id Software has teamed up with Nightdive Studios once again for a new remaster. Previously, this partnership has resulted in remasters for the original DOOM and its sequel, as well as Quake and Quake 2. This time around, they went with a pair of slightly lesser known classics in the id Software library – Heretic and Hexen.

The Heretic  + Hexen remaster bundle is now available. The games, which originally released in 1994 and 1995, have been upgraded with support for higher resolutions (up to 4K), and higher frame rates, with up to 120FPS on supported console hardware, while PC gamers can push further beyond.

The games both support mods, and online multiplayer for up to 16 players, so you can jump into fan-favourite custom maps, or jump into multiplayer lobbies for some classic arena shooter action.

Here is everything included in the Heretic + Hexen remastered bundle, which is selling for £13.50 on Steam:

  • Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders
  • Hexen: Beyond Heretic
  • Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel
  • Two all-new episodes created in collaboration between individuals at id Software + Nightdive Studios:
  • Heretic: Faith Renewed
  • Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur
