HoYoverse announces plans to shutdown Genshin Impact for PS4

Genshin Impact fans still using a PS4 will soon want to upgrade. This week, HoYoverse made the surprise announcement that the PS4 version of the game will be shutting down.

As of April 8th 2026, the PS4 version of Genshin Impact will no longer receive any updates. In an official statement, the developers pinned the shutdown on “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size”.

As always, there is a bit of a timeline to follow before the full shutdown takes place. The PS4 version of the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store on the 10th of September, at that point, you will no longer be able to search for or download the game on PS4, unless it is already in your library. Funnily enough, this is not the point where HoYoverse stops accepting payment for microtransactions – that comes much later, on February 25th 2026.

Then finally, on April 8th, the PS4 version of the game will go offline and will no longer be accessible.

If you regularly play Genshin Impact on PS4 and do not plan on upgrading to PS5, then the mobile version of the game is your best option.

KitGuru Says: Given that Genshin Impact is a mobile game first and foremost, the closure of the PS4 version is quite surprising. With that said, HoYoverse will have the data on how many PS4 users are still active and with this shutdown taking place, we can assume that the player numbers have been dwindling.
