BioShock 4 undergoing story re-writes, Cloud Chamber downsizes

We recently heard that things weren't going so well for the next BioShock behind the scenes. All of that came to a head this week with reports indicating that roughly 30% of the development team was let go as the project undergoes another reboot.

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, 2K Games recently conducted an ‘internal review' of the next BioShock game and the results were not what executives were hoping for. As a result, Cloud Chamber's workforce has been reduced by roughly 30%, with around 80 employees to be let go.

According to the report, the storyline for BioShock 4 was a particular point of contention, so while there will be a lot that needs to be re-done, this move may not set the game as far back as a typical reboot.

While much of this news is ‘unofficial' and based on sources, there is one big piece of BioShock-related news that is official. Rod Fergusson, who had previously led development on Gears of War at Xbox, and later moved on to the franchise head of Diablo at Blizzard, is now the head of Cloud Chamber and the BioShock franchise.

KitGuru Says: BioShock 4 has been in development for a decade at this point. Hopefully over the next year, Cloud Chamber can get the project into shape after whatever re-writes need to take place.
