Bethesda confirms plans for new Starfield DLC

When Starfield was revealed to the world, Bethesda had also announced the game's first expansion, Shattered Space. That DLC released last year and while fans had anticipated new announcements this year, Bethesda has been quiet on the subject of new content. That changed this week, with a new Developer Insight video confirming new Starfield content.

The renewed buzz around a second Starfield DLC stems from a recent Developer Spotlight video released by Bethesda earlier this week. In the video, Starfield Lead Creative Producer, Tim Lamb, teased upcoming content for the game, saying: “We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features that players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story”.

Lamb teased improvements to space gameplay, new game systems and “smaller delights”. In recent weeks, rumours have claimed that a new Starfield update will allow players to fly out of a planet's atmosphere, offering greater free roaming capabilities. Currently, leaving a planet in Starfield triggers a loading screen, and the number of loading screens throughout the game was a major point of criticism upon release.

MP1st claims to have heard from sources that the new Starfield DLC will be titled ‘Starborn', with plans to release in the first half of 2026. That title in and of itself could be a spoiler for newcomers to Starfield, as the base game campaign focuses entirely on the mystery surrounding the Starborn and for a good chunk of the game, the Starborn are merely teased without being named. This would be awkward for those coming to Starfield on new platforms, as rumours claim the game will be released next year for PS5 and potentially Nintendo's Switch 2 as well.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed Starfield but a lot of people have held off on playing the game in hopes of a Cyberpunk-style 2.0 overhaul. It sounds like we may get exactly that in the new year.
