Battlefield Mobile open beta begins rolling out

Last year ahead of the launch of Battlefield 2042, EA announced plans to develop a new Battlefield mobile game to take on the likes of Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG, Fortnite and other well-known shooters. Unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 ended up launching in rough shape, so we haven't heard anything about Battlefield Mobile for quite some time. This week, that has finally changed. 

EA has begun rolling out a Battlefield Mobile open beta in a few countries. The beta is only available on Android devices in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, as the development team continues to test the gameplay and network infrastructure.

The game will be free-to-download and will feature monetisation in the form of premium battle passes for seasonal cosmetics. If you've played a modern shooter, then this shouldn't come as a surprise, as a battle pass system now appears to be mandatory for any ongoing multiplayer game.

Battlefield Mobile is being developed by Industrial Toys, which joined EA back in 2018. As reported by VGC, this open beta includes classic maps from the Battlefield 3 era, as well as fan-favourite game modes like Conquest and Rush.

EA is planning on launching Battlefield Mobile in early 2023, so expect more updates on this over the coming months.

KitGuru Says: There is a big market for mobile shooters nowadays, but there are also a lot of established titles already taking up playing time, so it will be interesting to see how well Battlefield Mobile competes.
