EA denies false charges on gamers’ FIFA accounts

EA Games has denied claims that some Origin users are discovering charges on their accounts that they had nothing to do with. However, it did encourage anyone that thinks they may be affected, to make sure that their account password is unique and long.

This all stems from a number of Redditors who are claiming to have found purchases of things within games, specifically FIFA 2015, that they didn't make. Even though EA claims that there has been no hack of its services and that it's databases are secure, it could be an old hack from earlier last year that allowed nefarious individuals to infiltrate accounts.

Fortunately, there is a refund procedure for those affected. However, it will mean not deleting the stored payment method. If you are affected, contacting Origin support is probably the best way forward, but once you have secured a refund, it may be prudent to make sure that you delete stored payment methods and change your password. Enabling two step authentication on your account might be a smart plan too.

EA's official statement to Kotaku was as follows:

“We found no indication at this point of a breach of our Origin account database. Privacy and security of user account information are of the utmost importance to us. We encourage our players to use Origin user ID and passwords that are unique to their account and to report any activity they feel may be unauthorized to EA customer support at help.ea.com.”
