Ubisoft made a surprise announcement on Friday regarding the future of The Division franchise, revealing a new project titled The Division 2: Survivors. However, the publisher has remained almost completely silent on what the project actually is, leaving fans to speculate.
Described in the blog post as “an updated take on the survival extraction experience”, Ubisoft has stated that the project is in its early stages of development and has promised to “strive for transparency during its development”, a bit ironic given the vagueness of the initial reveal. Ubisoft's own official franchise roadmap lists the date as “TBA”, so it seems it's still early in development.
Alongside the new project, Ubisoft also provided an update on its long-in-development mobile title, The Division Resurgence. The free-to-play game is still on track for a release sometime this year, following a delay that was announced last summer. Early beta tests for Resurgence drew criticism for feeling like a direct console port with clunky controls, though the game has had significant development time since then to evolve.
It's a busy period for fans of the franchise. While the mysterious Survivors project is still a long way off, the mobile-focused The Division Resurgence is expected to arrive in the coming months. We'll have to wait for the promised transparency to find out more about what Survivors has in store for the future.
