Palworld is getting a cozy farming sim spin-off with guns

In a move that nobody saw coming, Pocketpair, the developer behind last year's controversial smash hit Palworld, has announced a new spin-off title. Get ready for Palfarm, a new game that takes the familiar creature-collecting world and drops it into what it claims is a “relaxing and cosy” farming simulator, but with guns added to the mix.

The announcement trailer starts off looking like a Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon clone set in the Palworld universe. We see players managing a farm, with their Pals helping to water crops, plant seeds, and sell flowers in a peaceful rural town. The developer even stated that the game aims to “show a more peaceful and cosy side of Palworld”.

Of course, this is Pocketpair, so the wholesomeness doesn't last long. The trailer quickly pivots to show Pals wielding chainsaws to harvest lumber, and the game's official Steam page cheerfully notes that “combat is a form of harvesting in its own way” alongside a GIF of a Tanzee unloading its assault rifle into another creature. The trailer concludes with the infamous Black Marketeer from the original game appearing to challenge the player to a game of Russian Roulette. Adding another layer of weirdness, the Steam page also mentions that it's possible to “bond with a Pal or resident to grow into a special relationship”. Perhaps the infamous Palworld dating sim joke from last year wasn't a joke after all.

It seems Pocketpair is doubling down on the shock-and-awe marketing that made the original Palworld such a phenomenon. Palfarm is a bizarre and darkly humorous take on the farming sim genre that is sure to be just as controversial and talked about as its predecessor.
