Wizards of the Coast has announced a publishing agreement with Giant Skull for a new Dungeons & Dragons video game. This new studio was founded by Stig Asmussen, a game industry veteran who worked on games such as God of War 3 and the Star Wars Jedi series. Giant Skull was established in September 2023, and this D&D game will be their debut title.
The upcoming game is described as a “single-player action-adventure title set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons” and will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 for both PC and consoles. Specific platforms have not yet been confirmed.
While their new partnership with Giant Skull promises an exciting Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure title, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Archetype Entertainment in Austin, Texas, is working on Exodus, an epic sci-fi RPG aiming to deliver an emotional narrative. Meanwhile, Atomic Arcade in Raleigh, NC, has been teasing their debut, a game featuring Snake Eyes, the legendary ninja/commando from G.I. Joe. Over in Montreal, QC, Invoke is deep into production on another D&D action-adventure title, this one focused on magic. Lastly, Skeleton Key in Austin, TX, is cooking up a project that promises a blend of suspense and terror for an unforgettable gameplay experience.
The announcement of Giant Skull's D&D game follows the success of Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate III, launched in August 2023. Baldur's Gate III garnered widespread critical acclaim, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023 and The DICE Awards 2023, among many other awards.
