Asus ROG Ally update lowers gaming performance

The Asus ROG Ally has been available for some time, often deemed as a worthy rival to the Steam Deck. As expected from a portable console like this, there will be software updates to improve the experience over time. Unfortunately, the latest ROG Ally firmware update appears to have gone the opposite way, lowering gaming performance compared to pre-release firmware. 

According to The Phawx, this update, which can be accessed through the MyASUS software, has resulted in a performance decline for the console. While earlier pre-release firmware updates had shown significant performance improvements for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme model, the 319 BIOS seems to have negated those gains.

Initially, the 319 firmware was touted as an enhancement for the 9W gaming experience. However, as seen in the video, testing has revealed that it actually worsens performance, even at higher TDP settings.

Although the 319 firmware does address certain bugs, Asus' representatives are cautioning users against immediate upgrading to the latest version. If you already have updated to the latest firmware, you can manually downgrade the BIOS using the Asus EZ Flash utility, or alternatively, you can wait for an upcoming fix.
