Thanks to the success of Fortnite, Epic Games has been afforded the opportunity to enter itself into the video game market in a role beyond simply being a video game publisher and engine creator. Epic’s push towards being a platform holder seems to be paying off as they now have more than 500 million registered users.
Making the announcement on their Unreal Engine website while discussing the Metaverse and 2022 trends, Epic revealed that “There are now over 500 million Epic Games accounts, with 2.7 billion friend connections across Fortnite, Rocket League, and the Epic Games Store.”
This is an extremely impressive number, however there must be some clarifications made. While it is not required, users can sign into Fortnite using an Epic Games account, and with more than 350 million Fortnite players, it is safe to assume that at least some of those did register with an Epic Games account.
