Layers of Fear 2 is free on the Epic Games Store

For the month of October, Epic Games appears to be leaning into the Halloween spirit. For this week’s free Epic Games Store titles, account holders can get their hands on the “adorable” turn-based action adventure game by Double Fine, Costume Quest 2, as well as the much scarier, first-person psychological horror game ‘Layers of Fear 2’. Both games are available to download for free from now until the 29th of October.

Costume Quest 2 is a short but sweet turn-based action adventure game developed by Double Fine (known best for the Psychonauts series) which sees you “Explore spooky time-traversing landscapes, don adorable new costumes that transform into powerful Hallo-warriors, and collect even Creepier Treat Cards to wield in combat against a legion of hygiene obsessed baddies.”

Layers of Fear 2 meanwhile is a much more mature focused first-person psychological horror game. Developed by Bloober Team, who are known best perhaps for their position within the psychological horror genre of gaming (they have developed Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, Observer, and the upcoming ‘The Medium’), Layers of Fear 2 has players “control a Hollywood actor who heeds the call of an enigmatic director to take on the lead role in a film shot aboard an ocean liner.”

Both Costume Quest 2 and Layers of Fear 2 will be available to purchase for free from now until the 29th of October. Of course, once in your library, they will be free to keep forever.
