At Gamescom 2025, KitGuru met with Ole Grosstuek, Chief Marketing Officer for be quiet!, who introduced the company’s latest chassis line – the Light Base 500. Following on from the success of the larger Light Base 600 and 900 LX, this new model aims to provide a smaller footprint without sacrificing the core design elements that made the LX popular.
Gamescom remains the world’s largest event for video games, drawing more than 350,000 visitors from over 120 countries this year, with around half of those attending from overseas. The event featured more than 1,400 exhibitors from over 60 nations. For hardware companies like be quiet!, Gamescom provides a valuable opportunity to showcase new designs, gather direct feedback, and highlight technology that will appeal to the enthusiast audience.
The Light Base 600/LX was noted for its angled front air intake and the ability to rotate the GPU holder for vertical graphics card installation. The new Light Base 500 retains these features while delivering a more compact enclosure. According to Grosstuek, the original models received strong uptake, but a segment of customers requested a more compact alternative. The Light Base 500 addresses this demand, while continuing be quiet!’s focus on airflow, noise control and visual presentation.
Other features include two possible locations for the PSU, so you can choose the best position, depending on whether you have a standard or ‘Project Zero/BTF' style motherboard. The fan control unit can be moved up or down as well.
The Light Base 500 also helps to make mounting your graphics card vertically a lot easier, with a rotational panel on the back of the case.
The series comes in two main versions: the standard Light Base 500 and the Light Base 500 LX. Both are available in black, while the LX also comes in a white edition. Grosstuek noted that pricing for the white chassis is higher because of the greater difficulty in colour-matching across different materials such as plastic, metal and rubber components.
