The tests were performed in a controlled air conditioned room with temperatures maintained at a constant 24c – a comfortable environment for the majority of people reading this.

Idle temperatures were measured after sitting at the desktop for 30 minutes. Load measurements were acquired by playing Crysis Warhead for 30 minutes and measuring the peak temperature. We also have included Furmark results, recording maximum temperatures throughout a 30 minute stress test. All fan settings were left on automatic.

The Sapphire HD7870 FleX Edition hovers around 62c when under gaming load, with the fans spinning at 2,400 rpm. These results are interesting however, because when placed under Furmark load, the fans don't spin up any further and the temperatures peak at 75c – which is around 3c higher than the reference solution.

We will find out on the next page if this is an intentional move from Sapphire to keep noise emissions as low as possible.
