We've been hearing about the Ryzen Z1 series processors through leaks recently. Today, AMD is making it official, announcing the new Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme processors for a new generation of handheld gaming PCs.

The announcement of the Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme processors also brings confirmation that devices like the ROG Ally will indeed use these chips. Both versions feature a Zen 4 CPU and an RDNA 3 GPU. The Z1 Extreme has more cores/threads and additional Compute Units for the iGPU to deliver extra gaming performance.

You can see the basic specs for each chip in the table below:

AMD Ryzen Z1 6/12 4 AMD RDNA 3

These processors are compatible with all Radeon technologies, including Radeon Super Resolution, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, AMD Link and more. Both CPUs also support USB4 for easy access to external storage and display devices, as well as LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X memory.

These chips will power a new wave of portable gaming devices, like the ROG Ally. With support for Windows 11, you'll be able to play your games across Steam, Battle.net, EA Play, uPlay, Epic Games and Xbox Game Pass.
