nVidia & TSMC ship 1 billionth Geforce GPU in 12 year span

The latest news to emerge from the green team shows that they have shipped 1 billion Geforce processors. With the help of TSMC this is certainly a stunning milestone.

Jen Hsun Huang, the president and chief executive of nVidia said “Since inventing the GPU more than a decade ago, Nvidia has driven innovation in these processors at a rate virtually unmatched in the technology industry, With our close partnership with TSMC, the complexity of these devices has increased more than 1000 times, enabling enormous progress in computers ranging from handhelds and PCs to workstations and data centers.”

Dr. Morris Chang, the TSMC Chairman and CEO said “NVIDIA's achievement is a prime example of how close collaboration between foundry and fabless companies can benefit the consumer electronics market, the semiconductor market segment, and both companies' shareholders, NVIDIA has been a model of vision and innovation, and we highly value the long-term relationship between NVIDIA and TSMC.”

KitGuru says: Those of you who can remember back to 1999 and the first Geforce 256 (SDR) with support for DirectX 7 will almost certainly have a tear in their eye right now.
