AMD confirms that Kraken Point is coming in early 2025

AMD's next-generation Zen 5-based APUs have been the subject of much speculation. While official announcements are still to come, AMD has at least confirmed that low-power ‘Kraken Point' SKUs will be launching in early 2025. 

Recent developments include confirmation from an AMD representative (Jack Huyhn) to ComputerBase regarding the company's plans for a new processor series, codenamed Krackan/Kraken Point. This processor is set to feature 4x Zen 5 and 4x Zen 5c cores, as well as 8 CUs built on the RDNA 3.5 architecture. It's still unclear what the cTDP range of this new series will target, but it should stray away from the 28-54W of Strix Point.

Rumours suggest that AMD plans to equip Kraken with LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, matching the specifications of Strix Halo. Like the new Ryzen AI series, AMD will likely use an updated XDNA 2 NPU, allowing it to attain Microsoft's Copilot+PC certification.

With these new chips, AMD should be able to reduce the entry price for Copilot+ PCs. However, Qualcomm's recently announced 8-core CPUs should also help with that.
