Corsair might be acquired for more than $500 million

It looks like Corsair could soon be under new ownership according to reports this week. It turns out that at least two sources familiar with the matter have come forward to claim that equity firm, EagleTree, is looking to acquire Corsair for more than $500 million.

Corsair is one of the biggest names around when it comes to PC gaming components. This includes peripherals, liquid coolers, RAM and more recently, graphics cards as Corsair and MSI have teamed up for a ‘Seahawk' series of liquid cooled GPUs. Beyond that, Corsair also recently began producing its own pre-built gaming PCs, known as the Corsair One.

According to two sources speaking with Reuters this week, a deal between EagleTree and Corsair is in the works, with the equity firm willing to spend more than $500 million to make the acquisition happen. So far, neither company has officially commented on the matter but with the PC gaming market now worth over $30 billion, companies like Corsair could attract big spenders looking to get a piece of the pie.

According to the report, EagleTree has managed to raise $330 million in funds for this acquisition from various other companies. In all, the firm is expected to pay roughly $525 million.

KitGuru Says: Half a billion dollars is a lot of money but it makes sense given how big the Corsair brand is. We will keep an eye on this story for further updates.
