Previous leaks indicated that Intel's upcoming Meteor Lake architecture would not be making its way to desktop processors. However, in a recent interview, the company has set the record straight, confirming that Meteor Lake chips for desktops will arrive in 2024. 

KitGuru attended the recent Intel Innovation event and heard for ourselves when Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced the laptop chips that had been codenamed Meteor Lake would be launched as Intel Core Ultra. Also, in news that surprised none of us, we learned that 'AI is taking over'. We trust Gelsinger meant this in a good and interesting way but the thought of Skynet taking over our lives leaves something to be desired.

Nvidia has been rather rapidly improving its DLSS image reconstruction technology, with the company most recently revealing DLSS 3.5 and its ray-tracing-focused enhancements. While early reports have already claimed that Nvidia will wait until 2025 to release the RTX 5090, the first rumours about the upcoming GPU are already making the rounds online - including reports that it could be as much as 70% faster than the RTX 4090.

As expected, Apple's Bionic A17 Pro SoC is overall faster than the A16. In multi-core CPU performance, early Geekbench results suggest just a small bump, but in single-core loads, we see a 10% increase. After first including the Xe2 architecture reference in Intel GPU drivers, Intel developers have now begun work on Mesa support. The Xe2 architecture, also known as Battlemage, is the architecture that will be used in the next generation of Intel desktop and mobile GPUs and supposedly on the iGPU of the future Lunar Lake client CPUs.

Much like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, will be a timed exclusive for PlayStation consoles. Yesterday during Sony's latest State of Play stream, a ton of new details about the game dropped, including a February release date.

It has been a week since Starfield officially became available worldwide. While the launch version of the game is pretty stable, there are lingering bugs and feature requests that the player base would like to see addressed. Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios’ first brand-new IP in over two decades. Microsoft even went as far as to call it one of the ‘most important’ RPGs ever made at its summer showcase this year. Microsoft may need to chill a little there, but overall, Starfield is nothing short of fantastic.

When Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launched earlier this year, it arrived with a few performance issues. These were most notable on PC but as I noted at launch, the next-gen console version wasn't holding up super well either. The game's performance mode was consistently under 60FPS, leading to constant screen tearing. Now with the game's seventh major patch, that should finally change.

We've known for a while now that Square Enix is planning to bring Final Fantasy 16 to PC but we've had little news on the progress of this new version. That is finally changing this week, with the studio confirming that Final Fantasy 16 is now in development for PC, and the game is set to get a couple of DLCs too.

Starfield has only been live for a few hours but modders are already hard at work. There are already dozens of mods for the game live, including a tool to replace FSR2 with DLSS or Intel Xe Super Sampling.

With each passing generation the file sizes for games have increased time and time again, with the peak seeing titles such as Call of Duty Warzone take up to 250GB during the PS4 / Xbox One generation. Gamescom officially took place last week and Nintendo was indeed in attendance to sell merch and show games to attendees. In the past, Sony has delivered major expansions to some of its biggest single-player exclusive games. God of War (2018) didn't end up getting an expansion, but according to a new leak, God of War: Ragnarok will be getting an expansion. 

This week at Gamescom, Dell has joined the list of companies announcing new hardware, unveiling a new ultra-fast Alienware gaming monitor. With a 500Hz refresh rate and low 0.05ms response time, this is claimed to be the fastest IPS gaming monitor in the world right now.
